BBST swimmers compete in Senior Sectionals  3/5/08   Bellingham Bay Swim Team sent four swimmers to compete in the SPEEDO CHAMPIONS SERIES - SPRING SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, at WKCAC in Federal Way, WA.  Jessica Vlasic, Ali Fisher, Rylie Martin, and Eddie Myers are representing BBST in the five day meet.  Teams from Arizona, Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Utah, Colorado,

Bellingham Bay Swim Team shines in hosted meet  1/14/07   Seventy-Four swimmers from Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) swam to 245 lifetime best times in the “Pacific Northwest Swimming January Challenge” hosted by the team January 12-13 at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center .  The Girls 200 Medley Relay team of Michelle Lam, Camorah King, Jessica Vlasic, and Ali Fisher bested the team record by 1.5 seconds (1:58.07).  Bliss Cui, 8, set team records in the 25, 50, and 100 Breaststroke.  Cole Avery, 10, set a team record in the 50 Breaststroke.  Andy Small, 12, set a team record in the 400 Individual Medley.    Read more...

Jessica Vlasic named Swimmer of the Year  12/19/07  Vlasic may be a bit hesitant when it comes to athletes and their occasional propensity for self-promotion. But she’s easily among the most talented, and that makes her The Bellingham Herald’s Girls’ Swimming Athlete of the Year.  

Vlasic earned second-place medals in the 200-yard freestyle and 500 freestyle at the Class 3A state swimming meet last month in Federal Way. That capped a stellar season during which Vlasic had Whatcom County’s best times in each event, and she saved the best for last, improving upon her state-meet performance from 2006, when she finished third in the 200 and fifth in the 500.

BBST swimmers head to girls high school 2A / 3A state  11/8/07 Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) sent 11 girls from Bellingham, Squalicum, and Sehome high schools to compete in the 2A and 3A state swimming championships in Federal Way. Representing BBST: Chelsea Billings, Ali Fisher, Kelley Gregory, Michelle Lam, Krista Johnson, Rachel Sager, Bryn Hubbard, Lindsay Seefried, Amber Mulder, Jessica Vlasic, and Erin Parkinson.

October Challenge Swim Meet a huge success!  11/1/07 Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) dominated their season opener, the October Challenge Swim Meet, October 20-21, at Arne Hanna pool in Bellingham.  BBST's stellar performance was lead by Bliss Cui, 8, who achieved 6 team records.  It was one of BBST largest attended meets. BBST finished with numerous best times, "Q" meet qualifying times, PNS Championship times, and Age Group Sectional qualifying times.  Individual Results      Complete Results

Austin Clevenger finishes 2nd at the Triathlon National Championships  8/27/07 Austin Clevenger, of BBST,  traveled to Wisconsin to compete at the USAT Youth Triathlon National Championships on August 4th and won the silver medal in his age category (11-12 year old boys).  The triathlon consisted of a 200m swim, 10k bike, and 2k run, and his total time was 27:48, just 3 seconds off the winning time of 27:45.  It was a great experience for Austin.  He had a great time, and he will return to the National Championships again next summer.    Newspaper Article


Bellingham swimmer competes at Western Zones  8/13/07  Jessica Vlasic, 16, of the Bellingham Bay Swim Team represented Pacific Northwest Swimming in the 2007 Western Zone Championships held August 7-11 in Farmington , New Mexico .  The competition features All-Star swimmers from each region of USA Swimming in the western United States .  Vlasic competed in the championship final of the 15-16 Girls 200 Backstroke, finishing 2nd.  Read more...

BBST swimmers achieve lifetime bests at  Western States Championships  7/19/07  Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) had three swimmers compete in the high-level 2007 USA Swimming Western Region Long Course Championships held July 10-14 in Gresham  Oregon .  The meet featured approximately 800 of the top swimmers, including Olympians and National Champions, from 11 western states ( Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona).   Read more...       Results             Photos


BBST 5th in Apple Capital Swim Meet in Wenatchee 6/11/07  Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) had 42 athletes swim to 15 new Team Records, 237 Lifetime Best Times, and 71 BBST All-Time Top 5 Swims in the 2007 Apple Capital Invitational in Wenatchee June 1-3.  The Team placed 5th out of 15 teams at the competition.  BBST swimmer Ali Fisher, 14, was the high-point winner in the 13-14 Girls Division. Setting Team Records were: Cole Avery (9) in the 200 Freestyle; Bliss Cui (8) in the 100 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, and 100 Breaststroke; Camorah King (12) in the 50 Breaststroke; Rowan King (8) in the 200 Freestyle, 50 Breaststroke, and 200 Breaststroke; Andy Small (12) in the 800 Freestyle.   Read more...

Blowfish demonstrate strong all-around ability in Pentathlon 4/30/07  The Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) Blowfish hosted 200 swimmers from around the region April 28 at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center in Bellingham for the 2007 Blowfish Spring Pentathlon.  The pentathlon rewards swimmers for their all-around ability by combining the total time from 5 events: one in each of the four competitive strokes and an Individual Medley swim (an event in which competitors swim all four strokes in succession).  BBST had 70 swimmers participate in the meet and took home the majority of the awards given to the Top 6 swimmers in each division, including Division Winners Bliss Cui (8 & Under Girls), Rowan King (8 & Under Boys), Cole Avery (9 year old Boys), Austin Fish (13 year old Boys), and Kelley Runestrand (14 & Over Girls).   Read more...       Meet Results



NW Section Age Group Sectional Championships
  Results  3/25/07  BBST sent 13 swimmers to compete last weekend (March 23-25) at the NW Age Group Sectional Championships in Federal Way, WA.  There were over 1,300 of the fastest age group swimmers from the states of Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii, and Washington competing.  As a team, BBST finished tied for 47th place out of almost 150 teams.  BBST results: Kaitlin Doyle (500 free - 29th, 200 free - 26th), Erin Parkinson (100 breast - 18th, 200 breast - 19th), Austin Clevenger (100 breast - 22nd), Andy Small (500 free - 31st).  Top 16 Finishers: Carlee Bock (100 free - 14th, 500 free - 21st, 200 IM - 30th, 200 free - 22nd), Cole Avery (200 IM - 2nd, 500 free - 9th, 200 free - 3rd, 100 IM - 3rd, 100 fly - 4th, 100 free - 4th), Eddie Myers (500 free - 13th, 200 free - 12th, 400 IM - 17th), Ali Fisher (50 free - 7th, 100 free - 13th), Kris Hunter (200 fly - 14th, 200 free - 19th, 400 IM - 18th, 100 back - 8th), Austin Fish (200 IM - 10th, 100 breast - 11th, 400 IM - 10th, 200 breast - 10th, 100 back - 19th), Camorah King (50 breast - 11th), Westy Summerton (100 fly - 10th), Maria Robertson (100 breast - 18th, 200 breast - 15th).   Way to go, swimmers!

Kelly Runestrand competes at Junior Nationals in Orlando
3/21/07  Kelly Runestrand, 17, from BBST, will be competing this week (March 20-24th) at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Orlando, FL.  Kelly will be competing against the fastest 18-unders in the nation.  Junior Nationals is one of the most competitive meets available for swimmers who are 18 years and younger.  It is a great accomplishment for Kelly to have qualified for the meet.  Follow Kelly's progress as she competes with the best 18-unders in the nation.

BBST swimmers compete at the Washington Open 
1/25/07  Five members of the Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) competed with top teams from California , Oregon , Idaho , Montana and Washington at the Senior Washington Open January 18-21 in Federal Way .  Kelly Runestrand led BBST by placing 5th in the 100 Breaststroke and placing 10th in the 200 Breaststroke with a time that qualifies her to compete in the longer event at U.S. Junior Nationals in Orlando, Florida in March.    Read more...    BBST Results


Kelly Runestrand: All-Whatcom County Girls' Swimmer of the Year
12/15/06     Squalicum senior leaves imprint on Whatcom County pools.

Kelly Runestrand slowed the blur of her daily routine for approximately 48 hours to act like a normal teenager for a little while. It was the Squalicum senior’s reward to herself for winning four medals at the Class 3A state swimming meet, the culmination of a season of hard work.  Read more...

 

 


Novice dual meet a huge success!  12/9/06    Fifteen novice swimmers competed on Saturday, December 9th, against the Friday Harbor Dolphins swim team at Arne Hanna.  The meet featured 25's and 50's in every stroke, relays, 100's in free and back, and a 100 IM to cap things off.  Grace Davis, Madeline Gillman, Shea Mielke and Samantha Orahood all had a great first meet.  The entire Dolphins team also swam well considering it was their first off-island meet.  The meet featured lots of smiles, hugs and pizza-smeared faces (after the meet, of course).  Thanks to all the novice parents who worked hard to make this meet a success!    Meet Results

2nd Annual BBST Jr. Group Blind Man Turkey Swim Championships  11/23/06   The 2nd annual BBST Junior Group Blind Man Turkey Swim Championships took place on Wednesday, November 22nd, at Arne Hanna pool.  This year's championships were extremely competitive, with the top 4 finishers predicting their times within 1.9 seconds of their actual times.  During the  Blind Man Turkey Swim Championships, competitors are asked to predict their time for the 50 yard freestyle while swimming blind-folded.  Top 4 Finishers: 4th place, William Hutchinson (+1.9 sec. difference).  3rd place, Bliss Cui (+1.8 sec. difference). 2nd place, Alyssa Shawler (+1.5 sec. difference).  1st place...and this year's Champion, Jonathan Chang (+.5 sec. difference).  This is the 2nd year in a row where Jonathan's family has taken home the Blind Man Turkey Swim Championships.  In 2005, Jonathan's brother, Daniel Hsieh, was the inaugural Champ.

BBST swimmer shines at Masters World Championships  8/7/06    Megan Bussart, 36, of Bellingham competed in 3 events at the XI FINA World Masters Swimming Championships held August 4-6, at Stanford University in California .  The event included over 5,500 swimmers representing 1100 swim clubs from around the world.  Bussart trains with Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST).

BBST outstanding at Age Group Seattle Open  7/17/06    Nineteen swimmers from the Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) competed well at the Age Group Seattle Open July 14-16 in West Seattle .   Kaitlin Doyle, Mitchell Scott, Daniel Hsieh, Arden Hunter, and Camorah King all achieved new qualifying times for the Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships to be held July 27-30 in Federal Way bringing the team total to 27 swimmers qualified to compete in 120 events.

BBST swimmer competes in 'record-setting' event 6/19/06    Kelly Runestrand, 17, of the Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) placed 6th in the Championship Final of the Women’s 50 Meter Breaststroke at the Pacific Rim Classic held June 16-18, in Federal Way.   In the final 22 year-old Olympic Gold Medalist Megan Jendrick (formerly Megan Quann) set the U.S. Open record (30.91).

BBST swimmers shine at May Flowers

5/1/06
     Bellingham Bay Swim Team sent three swimmers : Jessica Vlasic, Maria Robertson, and Kelly Runestrand to compete in the May Flowers Senior swim meet this past weekend (May 6-7th).  BBST's swimmers shined in just the 2nd long course meet of the season.  In addition to almost 100% best times, Runestrand and Vlasic both placed in the top 16 in their respective events.  Runestrand's highest placing was 4th in the 100 breaststroke, while Vlasic finished 2nd in the 200 backstroke.       Read more...        Complete Results

BBST swims well at Victoria Invitational  4/24/06
Bellingham Bay Swim Team (BBST) had seven swimmers compete well in the Island Invitational in Victoria , B.C. April 21-23.   The meet was held in an Olympic sized venue and featured some of the best swimmers in Canada .  Jessica Vlasic, 14, won the 200 Backstroke and was 3rd in the 100 Backstroke in times that were team records and qualifying for elite Western States Sectional Championships.

Fall Grand Challenge Meet Result 12/5/05 
Bellingham Bay Swim Team sent 30 swimmers to compete in the Fall Grand Challenge swim meet in Marysville, WA, December 3-4th.  BBST swimmers were outstanding!  BBST swimmers had a lot of fun, improved dramatically, swam very fast, and had numerous best times.  Many BBST swimmers swam new PNS "Q" meet qualifying time standards.  Competing in their first swim meet ever: Nicola Morrow, Morgan Paker, Rainey McLaurin,  and Mariel Holubik.  Two new "Q" meet qualifiers: Stephen Rogers (50 free) and Nicola Morrow (50 breast).    BBST Results

Coach Mark Jordan is honored in the Bellingham Herald  11/22/05

After untold thousands of hours in the pool, Mark Jordan knew he loved swimming with a singular passion by the time he was a college freshman at the University of Virginia. He just never suspected he would crave coaching the sport, too.

November Challenge Meet Results  11/21/05
